Our Philosophy
Under Dr. Winoker's leadership, the Center for Kidney Stone Disease at Lenox Hill offers a variety of
rapid care pathways and services to improve convenience and the quality of patient care:
Kidney stones are a common, chronic condition characterized by painful stone events, repeat surgical interventions, and negative impact on health-related quality of life. For these reasons, we have developed a collaborative, multidisciplinary care program that aims not only to treat kidney stones, but to provide rapid, accessible care when needed, and comprehensive, individualized care plans to prevent stone recurrence and disease progression.

Same-day appointments
The Stone Center is equipped and staffed to accommodate same-day appointments for patients, including those from our referring colleagues, urgent care centers, and directly from the Emergency Department. A dedicated kidney stone Nurse Practitioner helps patients navigate our rapid care pathways, expediting hospital, office, radiologic, and emergency room care. Benefits include urgent stent insertions in the office for kidney stone pain relief, rapid scheduling of necessary surgeries, and quicker imaging procedures, among others.
In-office ultrasound and
X-ray services
Formal ultrasound and X-ray services with a full-time radiologic technician in the office allows the doctor to perform real-time evaluation of flank pain, potential stones in the kidneys, ureters, and bladder, enlarged prostate, and other urological issues. The results are reviewed and discussed immediately to support immediate care decisions. This service saves valuable time and expedites care by avoiding the hassle of going to a separate radiology facility for imaging, waiting for results to be sent to the doctor, and scheduling additional appointments.

In-office procedural care
The Stone Center boasts a new, state-of-the-art procedure room outfitted with a fluoroscopy (live X-ray) system and the most modern endoscopic equipment for in-office procedures. This includes insertion of ureteral stents for severe kidney stone pain, nephrostomy tube exchanges, diagnostic cystoscopy (camera in bladder) and ureteroscopy (camera in kidney) for various indications, and minimally invasive procedures for enlarged prostate treatment. Collectively, this enables convenient, efficient intervention at the time of your office visit while avoiding the hassle of operating room care.
